Hair Salon Marketing

Running your own Hairdressing or beauty salon is no easy feat. Couple the day to day running along with the “future direction” of the business and you’re likely to have a headache before 10am.
We have worked with a many salons throughout the country and while each of them have very different methods of marketing, the underlying premise is, that it has to be done often and to the highest of standards.

First up! Your windows, yes they are a nightmare to clean, (who are we kidding, you don’t clean them, someone else does) but these panes of glass are some of the most valuable advertising space on the high street. USE THEM. Large posters with your latest product offers will attract custom. How about showcasing the latest style of haircut. Won an award? Then shout about it.

Once your customers are in the salon, this is your domain, ensure a pricelist is on ever station, as no one likes surprises. What services does your salon provide above and beyond styling? Do you have a new nail bar or spray tan unit about to be installed? Promote the profitable areas of your business and don’t leave your customers guessing as to whether or not you provide such services.
A roll-up banner can pack neatly away when the salon is busy, it can be taken to bridal fairs and be used at networking events. You could also have generic flyers for your salon with information about “specials” and distribute these e.g. If you give a student discount on a Tuesday, have a couple of juniors distribute these outside the local colleges, schools or Universities.

Do you reward your customers for returning to your business every 4-6 weeks? If not, you should. One of the biggest factors for returning to a salon, aside from a great haircut, is being rewarded for loyalty. Why not start a loyalty scheme, whereby your customers get a free head massage after every 6 visits. The cost is negligible to you, but that head massage after a stressful day at work, could mean all the difference.

Depending on what time of the year you read this, Christmas could be approaching, or in the distant future, and we recommend sending a pesonalised card to every customer in you database. Why not include a special £5 off your next visit voucher. These girls and guys have been faithful all year and never missed an appointment so why not reward them.

Lets talk about missed appointments shall we? How much does a missed appointment cost you? The cost of the original haircut and if your like us, the cost of the potential customer who could have filled that space. We fully understand that in some instances, people just forget about an appointment, but this is why you should always, and we mean always hand out an appointment card after every visit for the customers’ next visit. I also fully stand behind the method of calling your customer the day before with a little reminder. But I’m sure you do that already…
